The new Minister of Environment, Waters and Forests, Mircea Fechet, intends to launch next week in public consultation the draft Government Decision that will regulate the “Guarantee – Deposit” system and, very soon, after the transparency period, the document will be sent to the Official Gazette to produce legal effects.
Mircea Fechet was sworn into office on Thursday, in front of President Klaus Iohannis, in a ceremony that took place at the Cotroceni Palace.
“Among my priorities is the Guarantee-Deposit system. I also discussed this system as Secretary of State. It is the way in which the Ministry of Environment will make Romania transform itself from the deposited landfill into the land of recycling. Today we have about 6 billion containers – PET, aluminum cans, bottles – that end up mainly in landfills. After the entry into force of the Guarantee – Deposit system, which will pay people 0.50 RON at returning the container to the store, we will make sure that on the one hand we will no longer consume natural resources for all the recyclable material that is lost, we will provide jobs, while the Romanian state will only have to gain. I want to publish on the ministry’s site next week for public consultation the Government Decision that will regulate the system of Guarantee – Deposit and, very soon, after the period of transparency, to be able to send it to the Official Gazette to produce legal effects,” Fechet said, according to Agerpres.
