Romania and Europe must not give up on green industrial objectives, said Florin Spătaru, state counselor at the Prime Minister’s Chancellery, on Wednesday, at a conference organized by the Bucharest Stock Exchange together with the EBRD.

“Romania’s industrial strategy for the period 2024 – 2030 must be completed with the plan regarding the European Green Deal, which takes into account that Romania and Europe must not give up on green industrial objectives. There is a discussion mentioned in the report, moreover, that we do not take into account the reality in our countries, where competition and competitiveness are very important,” said the state counselor, who participated in the launch of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Transition Report for Romania for the year 2024-2025 and the revised BVB Corporate Governance Code, according to Agerpres.

According to him, Romania’s Industrial Strategy, adopted at the end of last year by the Government, was the result of a deep analysis of Romanian industry. “When I was in the position of minister, in 2021, I brought up three topics: Romania’s reindustrialization, the defense industry and the strategy regarding Romania’s mineral resources. Based on these three objectives, we have consolidated our industrial strategy,” the Government representative stated.

He explained that a first objective for our country is to reduce the trade balance deficit. The second objective is, in Spătaru’s opinion, to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. ‘This is where the most difficult part comes in, namely how to transform your economy and industry so that it is sufficiently competitive, but, on the other hand, to also respect the targets set in the long term,’ said the state councilor.

Spătaru believes, thirdly, that the European Green Deal highlights a series of opportunities for Romania. “We will develop sectoral programs that will solve the problems that entrepreneurs face today in the construction field, where accessing funds is quite difficult, but also in other essential sectors, such as the chemical industry, etc. Added value and return on investments can only be achieved in this way and by respecting these objectives. This is how we see Romania’s industrial development from 2025,” the government representative said.
