The law under which oil concessions were granted is not specific to the offshore field, so improvements need to be made, said Florina Sora, senior advisor at the National Agency for Mineral Resources (ANRM), at the Energy Strategy Summit 2017, quoted by Agerpres.

“We have a law that has proven viable and, based on it, oil concessions were granted, but this law does not address all the issues, it is not specific to the offshore field, so we are focusing on making improvements. We, at NAMR, pay special attention to exploration for discovering new resources in order to replace those that are exhausted. Even though Romania is a mature market, we have recently made important discoveries, both onshore and even more offshore. Developing offshore resources is a priority for us, as well as attracting investment and collaborating with major companies that have what it is needed, technology and know-how, to develop these resources,” Sora explained.

According to her, feasibility studies are currently being carried out to determine the feasibility of exploiting these resources (natural gas), as well as for realizing the necessary infrastructure to bring them into the market.
