OMV Petrom, the largest integrated energy producer in Southeast Europe, is expanding its natural gas supply business to the Bulgarian market. Starting from October, industrial consumers in Bulgaria can benefit from OMV Petrom’s offer.
“In the last two years, we have consolidated our presence on the Romanian market and started expanding in the region. Bulgaria is a natural step, given the proximity and the fact that we are already present in this market with the OMV station network and with exploration operations in the Black Sea”, said Franck Neel, member of the OMV Petrom board responsible for the Gas activity and Energy.
By entering the supply market in Bulgaria, OMV Petrom builds on its experience as a supply leader for non-domestic customers in Romania and on its knowledge of the Bulgarian market, where the company already has natural gas trading activities.
“We want to become a reliable partner for customers in Bulgaria, close to their expectations, with customized and flexible offers,” added Angel Yankov, representative of OMV Petrom Gase and Energy in Bulgaria.
OMV Petrom is active along the entire natural gas value chain, from production and processing to marketing and supply. The company is the second largest producer of natural gas in Romania, with a production of 3.3 billion cubic meters in 2023. Through its own production and supply contracts, the company has ensured about 40% of natural gas consumption in Romania in 2023.
OMV Petrom owns a 50% share of the Neptun Deep project and is its operator. Neptun Deep is the largest natural gas resource in the EU, with an estimated production of around 100 billion cubic meters. First gas from Neptune Deep is expected in 2027.
In Bulgaria, OMV Petrom is present through the network of distribution stations under the OMV brand and holds the exploration license for the Han Asparuh perimeter in the Black Sea, where it is also the operator.
