The most important Romanian producer of hydropower, Hidroelectrica, may be privatized in 2015, if all conditions of an exit from insolvency are met, Ştefan Frangulea, director at Hidroelectrica, told energynomics.ro.

“We could privatize it this year, if all deadlines will be met quickly. It’s an optimistic variant. We have and we need a quarter to be operational outside insolvency, to showcase to our investors”, said Frangulea.

In a pessimistic scenario, the timing of privatization could be moved in the first half of 2016, he said. “Also the trial with Energy Holding should be taken into account,” added Frangulea.

To become more efficient, Hidroelectrica wants to sell this year about 80-90 small hydro, he said at the Govnet “Romania Hydropower Energy Summit 2015” conference.

“Of the 235 microhydro centrals taken over by Hidroelectrica, about 110 were sold between 2003 and 2008. Now we have to sell a batch of 31 small hydropower plants in 20 packages with a total installed power of 25 MW. This year we will probably sell a total of 80-90 MHCs,” also said Frangulea.
