Data centres are at the heart of the transition to digitisation, and they will be able, with the help of technology and artificial intelligence, to deliver electricity to the grid, said Gabriel Tache, Country Sales Manager at Eaton Electric.

“Utilities currently have very big challenges with the way energy flows have changed with the advent of prosumers, which poses management challenges. AI can solve these problems,” Tache said at the DigitALL 2024 conference organized by Energynomics.

It will also be possible to use the energy stored in the batteries of electric cars as a power source or back-up for domestic energy consumption.

For Eaton, digital transformation is a priority, but Romania is still at an early stage. The group is also involved in data centre management. According to Tache, digitisation and the increasing penetration of artificial intelligence will require a huge amount of computing, which in turn will require a huge amount of energy generated from renewable sources.

Globally, only 50% of companies are in the process of implementing digitalization, but more than 75% of management teams are not yet ready for digitalization, as such a process also requires adapting technologies. In the industrial area, 48% of companies had difficulties on the supply side, and the level of employee readiness is also an impediment.

Eaton reported 2021 net income of 2.1 billion dollars and annual sales of more than 19 billion dollars. The company employs about 85,000 people in 175 countries.

DigitALL 2024 was organized by Energynomics, in partnership with reputed organizations such as the CIO Council, with the support of our partners: Corning, Datacor, Eaton Electric, Enevo Group, Procesio, Siemens, Sixt, Vertiv.
