he general mayor, Gabriela Firea, announced on Tuesday that City Hall is giving up the Oxigen vignette and the access restrictions in the center of Bucharest after the poll organized on Facebook, where he asked if the Bucharest people agree with the introduction of the Oxigen vignette, received about 60,000 comments, over 90% being against the introduction of the tax, of about 2.5 million views. For the decision to be implemented, it must be validated by the General Council, where Gabriela Firea’s party has the majority. Bucharest residents who have already purchased the vignette will receive their money back.
“The decision will turn into a General Council decision in March and the decision is that I will give up the Oxigen vignette. I will come up with a cancellation project, but that doesn’t mean we will give up. I do not abandon the Oxygen project because it includes several projects, planting trees, purchasing less polluting cars, bicycle lanes, checking the polluting sites, streets, passage bridges. About 1,600 Bucharest people bought the vignette, totaling 76,000 euro, all will receive their money back,” said Gabriela Firea, according to Hotnews.ro.
The mayor said that the results of the survey organized on the Facebook page are very clear, as the citizens do not agree with the tax and restrictions.
