Romania imported, in the first semester of 2022, a quantity of usable natural gas of 1.067 million tons of oil equivalent (toe), 17.1% (220,700 toe) lower than in the same period last year, according to data gathered by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).
The domestic production of natural gas was, in the mentioned period, of more than 3.502 million toe, 5.5% (203,800 toe) below that of the first six months of 2021.
The National Strategy and Forecasting Commission estimates for 2022 a gas production of 7.45 million toe and imports of 2.33 million toe, increasing by 1.9% and decreasing by 19.6%, respectively, from year to year, according to Agerpres.
According to the “Energy Strategy 2019-2030, with the perspective of 2050”, published on the website of the Ministry of Energy, Romania’s natural gas production will reach a peak of 132 TWh in 2025, as a result of production from the Black Sea, and then decreased to 96 TWh in 2030 and to 65 TWh in 2050.
