Gasoline has fallen below the threshold of 5 lei per liter in Romania, the last time this took place more than four years ago, reports Pro TV’s website. The cheapest petrol is in the region of Moldova, where a liter is almost 4.9 lei, while a liter of petrol in Wallachia and Transylvania is 0,2 lei more expensive. The cheapest petrol is on the outskirts of Bucharest, where the price stays a little over 5 lei per liter.
Small rents for fields and lower incomes pulled down the fuel prices more in Moldova than in the rest of the country. Pro TV notes that Iași has the lowest price, 4.88 lei. For a tank of gasoline of 50 liters of petrol, Romania from Moldova spend with 10 lei less than those from Bucharest, notes the TV station. The price would be lowered further to 4.5 lei lei for petrol and 4.7 lei for diesel if there had not been an extra seven cents excise.
“Tax-free price of diesel, the fuel most purchased by us, is higher than in Germany, France, Netherlands or the United Kingdom. When comparing rates with all excises and VAT included, we climb four places in the rankings and buy fuel that is more expensive than in Portugal, Austria and Spain.
From last summer, pump prices fell by 19 percent for gasoline and 15 (percent) for diesel. That means a 60 lei saving for a tank of gasoline. […] because 55% of the price consists of taxes and duties that go directly to the state, the influence of international prices for a barrel of oil is not so high in the numbers practiced by gas stations”, says Pro TV in its reportage.
