Hidroelectrica has awarded DSD Noell GmbH the contract for the structural rehabilitation of the double hooked spillway at the Iron Gates I Spillway Dam, worth 39.27 million euros, excluding VAT.
Hidroelectrica states in a press release that DSD Noell GmbH “has best met the technical and financial requirements of the project”, which will run for about 7 years.
“The signing of this contract is an important step in the process of modernisation and maintenance of hydropower infrastructure in Romania,” said Karoly Borbely, CEO of Hidroelectrica. “The Porțile de Fier I spillway dam plays an essential role in the management of the country’s hydropower resources, and the rehabilitation works will contribute to increasing the reliability and operational safety of the spillway dam and the efficiency of the installations. These investments are an integral part of Hidroelectrica’s strategy to ensure the optimal and sustainable operation of the hydropower units in an increasingly challenging economic and environmental environment,” the Hidroelectrica official explained.
Hidroelectrica is the largest producer of electricity in Romania and plays a crucial role in ensuring the stability of the national energy system by generating green electricity and sustainable management of hydrological resources.
