Romanian government approved two state aid schemes targeting projects in cogeneration, biomass, biogas and geothermal, the executive announced. The projects amount to 82 million euro, and the potential beneficiaries are the energy producing companies and the administrative-territorial units or the inter-community development associations that build or modernize energy installations, announced the spokesman of the Executive, Dan Cărbunaru.

According to the quoted source, the estimated budget of the state aid scheme to support investments that capitalize on renewable energy sources and energy efficiency, thus stimulating the use of less exploited sources, namely biomass, biogas, geothermal is 21 million euros, and the scheme of state aid to support investments in high-efficiency cogeneration- of around EUR 61 million.

“The two state aid schemes apply until December 31, 2023, and the amounts are allocated from European non-reimbursable funds provided by the European Regional Development Fund in proportion of 85% and public co-financing funds provided from the state budget – 15%,” writes a government statement.

“Today, the government approved normative acts that will put in place elements to support the economy. In this sense, according to today’s government decision, two state aid schemes in the field of energy are approved, in the sense of their continuation, until the end of the year 2023. These are aid schemes financed by national and European funds”, said Cărbunaru, after the government meeting.

He noted that the government had also approved a memorandum outlining “concrete steps” to extend aid schemes for large energy consumers.
