The Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB) recorded the highest number of transactions in 2024, namely 2.6 million, up 32% compared to the previous year, said BVB President Radu Hanga on Tuesday at the listing ceremony of the bond issuance of Autonom on the Stock Exchange, according to Agerpres.

“Looking back at 2024, the market capitalization of companies listed on the Bucharest Stock Exchange reached 363 billion lei, almost 18% more than at the end of the previous year. If we look at local companies listed on the Bucharest Stock Exchange, we have a capitalization of 242 billion lei, an increase of 5% compared to the end of 2023. In 2024, we recorded a new high in terms of the number of transactions on the stock exchange with 2.6 million transactions. This is a 32% increase compared to the previous year and I would say that this is related to what we are seeing in terms of the number of retail investor accounts,” said Radu Hanga.

He stated that the number of investors continued to grow and, in September 2024, reached a new historical high of almost 215,000, according to the latest data published by the FCI. At the end of 2019, there were almost 54,000 investors.

“I think it is very important for us to maintain this trend, because at the end of the day, in addition to helping companies that come to the Stock Exchange to obtain financing, we offer them a stage, a place where they can be visible, and in order to add value to this stage, which is the Bucharest Stock Exchange, we need to increase the number of people in the public, the number of those who invest on the stock exchange. 16.4 billion lei was attracted by the Romanian state through the Fidelis program with the support of the Bucharest Stock Exchange, which shows us, once again, our commitment to the local capital market and to the Romanian state. If we look at the benchmark indicators for the Romanian market, last year the BET and BET -TR indices registered an advance of 8.8% and 16.1%, respectively”, Radu Hanga also stated.
