Before thinking about what benefits Romania could have from participating in the reconstruction of Ukraine, we will have to think that we will also have a share of the contribution to the amounts that will be spent on the reconstruction of this country, said on Monday, the president of the Bucharest Stock Exchange, Radu Hanga, at a specialized event.

“I think that one of the great opportunities is the reconstruction of Ukraine. Everyone is wondering where the 500 billion will come from, and I think that the 500 billion will probably also come from Europe, given how the situation looks now. I think that before thinking about the benefits, we will have to think that we will also have a share of the contribution to the amounts that will be spent there for the reconstruction. Probably one of the biggest opportunities for us, going forward, is to live in a quieter area and that would certainly mean that things would calm down in terms of the conflict in Ukraine and to live in an area where there are opportunities for growth,” said Radu Hanga, at the “Investors Forum – 2025: Challenges and Opportunities of the Year”, according to Agerpres.

Asked about the evolution of the capital market in 2025, he believes that it is possible that we will see volatility and a continuation of the trend of recent years, of “focus on the local market”. In fact, according to the BVB president, the increase in the contribution of retail investors to the stock market is one of the best things that has happened in recent years.

“One of the best things that we see happening in recent years is the increase in the contribution of retail investors, local investors to the stock market. I think this will be the dominant trend, that is, I think that the world that continues to emerge is a world that will become less and less global. This is already a trend that we have been seeing for some time. A less and less global world, a world in which we see supply chains that are broken. It will probably also be characterized by ruptures in the area of capital flows. Capital will probably no longer move as freely as we were used to. This means that dependence on local capital will increase. We and the Romanian state will also depend much more on financing from the local market. And I would say on the stock market, looking at it, we must continue the effort to increase visibility and increase Romanian participation in the market. And again, if I were to look at the positive aspect of a more fragmented world, it is the fact that, probably, the visibility and importance of local companies will increase. And we, as a stock exchange, want to position ourselves here as a supporting factor, as a platform that supports the development of local companies. And when I talk about development, I talk about more than just access to capital. I mean, I believe that the stock exchange is beyond a platform that facilitates access to capital, it is a platform that ensures visibility for companies that enter the stock exchange scene. And I believe that if we know how to be smart enough to capitalize on this asset, we will only have something to gain,” said Radu Hanga.
