The Chinese company Hexing inaugurated a smart meter factory in Romania on 10 October, following an investment of 15 million lei, said Răzvan Iordache, Marketing Specialist at Hexing Europe, at the conference “Digitalization and Energy Efficiency – Timisoara”, organised by Energynomics.
“The initial investment was 15 million lei. We’ll create 200 jobs by the end of next year, and we already have 53 colleagues. The production lines are running and we have already honoured the first orders. In the second stage we will develop the production of smart meters for water consumption, and in the third stage we will build batteries for inverters,” Iordache said.
This factory will soon become a regional hub serving customers in Europe, North Africa and the Middle East and will also benefit from a local warehouse, efficient and fast logistics. The factory will also have its own renewable energy source.

“To make the factory energy efficient, we are currently implementing a 334 kW photovoltaic project. With this project we want to demonstrate that in order to become competitive in a market where the price of energy is rising and we cannot control it, we will use our in-house inverters,” added Dorian Petresc, Electrical Design Engineer at Hexing Europe.
The conference “Digitalization and Energy Efficiency – Timisoara” was organised by Energynomics, with the support of its partners: ABB, BCR, CRC, Datacor, Elektra Renewable Support, MET Energy Romania, Nofar Energy, Polytrade Global, Volt, WALDEVAR Energy.
