Hidroelectrica announces the completion of the tender for the acquisition procedure of the Li-ion battery storage facility in the Crucea Nord Wind Farm. This investment marks a first for the company, being the first Li-ion battery energy storage project implemented by Hidroelectrica.
At the end of last year, Hidroelectrica initiated the tender process for the acquisition of the Li-ion battery storage facility in the Crucea Nord Wind Farm, an installation that will be installed within the Crucea Substation in the Crucea Nord Wind Farm, currently owned by SPEEH Hidroelectrica SA.
Hidroelectrica SA owns and operates the Crucea Nord CEE with an installed capacity of 108MW, the power plant being in operation since 2014.
The main purpose of the investment is to reduce internal imbalances at the wind farm in Hidroelectrica’s portfolio, provide balancing services to the national energy system, improve wind turbine performance and reduce the wear and tear of the turbines’ electromechanical systems.
The tender for this acquisition was completed by signing the contract with the winning bidder, the association formed by Prime Batteries Technology SRL. and Enevo Group S.R.L. Prime is one of the most important producers of energy storage solutions in the European Union, established in 2016.
The contract price is 79,832,242.00 lei excluding VAT, and the implementation period is 12 months from the date of signing the contract.
After the storage facility is put into operation, the nominal power of the facility will be 36 MW, with a nominal storage capacity (energy) of 72 MWh.
“This investment marks a first for the company, being the first energy storage project with Li-ion batteries implemented by Hidroelectrica. Through this acquisition, the company takes an important step towards resource efficiency, portfolio diversification, and offering complex services by accessing modern technologies in the field.
The company thus reaffirms its commitment to promoting renewable energies and modernizing the production infrastructure, in line with the national transition strategy towards a green and sustainable economy,” say Hidroelectrica officials.
Hidroelectrica is the largest green energy producer in Romania and provides essential technological services for the National Energy System. The company operates 188 plants with a hydropower capacity of 6.4 GW and – in addition, it owns a wind farm in Crucea, with an installed capacity of 108 MW.
