Hidroelectrica has completed the retrofit of the hydro-aggregate 2 from the Bereşti power plant, after carrying out modernization works worth 18.2 million lei, made by Hidroserv.
Modernization has introduced state-of-the-art technological solutions to improve the overall operating parameters, increase the automation degree and safety of the HPP.
“Today we live an important moment on the first day of a new technological cycle for the CHE Bereşti hydro power unit 2,” said Bogdan Badea, president of the Hidroelectrica’s Directorate, at the inauguration ceremony. “We are going to continue investing so that we can secure the current portfolio. We cannot imagine our development and expansion without making sure that we keep what we have. In terms of investment, I can tell you with certainty that every step counts. It is for us important to mobilize, to overcome the barriers we face”, said Bogdan Badea, speaking again about the company’s commitment to invest over 5 billion lei in the coming years.
CHE Bereşti is a dam HPP located on the Siret River, about 4 kilometers downstream of Bereşti, equipped with two hydro-units (2 x 21,75 MW), with Kaplan vertical hydraulic turbines KVB 26-17,7, Qi = 165m3 / and Hmax = 18.3 m.
At the end of 2014, hydro-aggregate number 2 had approximately 107,283 operating hours since commissioning, resulting in an average of 3,832 operating hours per year, according to the company. The 28.54 MVA hydro generator was manufactured at UCM Resita and has been operating since 1986 without replacing winding or other major repairs. Between 1986 and 2012, the average annual output of the Berești power plant was 146.7 GWh, more than 33% higher than the average annual energy output of 110 GWh estimated when the investment had been approved.
