Production from the most important offshore project in Romania, Neptun Deep, will reach a peak level as early as 2028, said Cristian Hubati, Board Member responsible for Exploration and Production, OMV Petrom, according to News.ro.
“We are talking about a 10-year production plateau. According to the definition, the plateau will be in the year after the start, in 2028, because it will be a whole year, unlike 2027, which will not be a whole year,” said Hubati.
The OMV Petrom official recalled that the development work of Neptun Deep started in 2012, with the first exploration well.
“We are talking about 12-15 years of continuous work. Stability and predictability are extremely important,” added Hubati.
“We are on schedule, and the vast majority of delays in these types of projects occur in the first third of the project, a stage we have already passed. We started the works for the platform superstructure in Indonesia in the middle of this year.. We started in September the works for gas treatment in the country”.
The next stage will be to start drilling, with modifications currently being carried out in Spain to enable the rig to cross the Bosphorus.
“The rig is a self-propelled ship. We are making changes to practically lay the superstructure on the rig to pass under the Bosphorus, which we will reinstall in Romania”, explained Hubati. The official of OMV Petrom specified that, together with the partners from Romgaz, the company is in the process of obtaining authorizations, which have already been obtained for the measuring station and for part of the pipeline.
“We have a very good collaboration with our partners from Romgaz. You will see pleasant surprises soon,” says the OMV Petrom official.
Regarding the other project that OMV Petrom has in the Black Sea, Han Asparuh, from Bulgaria, Hubati specified that, in principle, the exploration operations have a cycle of 2-3 years of exploration days.
“I don’t see a future without gas in the near future. Renewable energy sources must be balanced. Gas turbines come into operation very quickly, on the order of minutes. Gas has a 30% weight in the current mix, by 2030 the forecasts are that it will increase by 25%, and by 2040 – gas will play an important role of balancing, of substitution”, said Hubati.
