In Romania, there are no companies that can build photovoltaic parks larger than 50 MW, and many projects already built have many deficiencies, said Ionuț Ciubotaru, Vice President of Business Development at OMV Petrom, at the 9th edition of the Energy Strategy Summit, an event organized by Energynomics.
“It is frustrating that there are no Romanian companies that have the power to build a photovoltaic plant larger than 50 MW. It is very difficult to identify the right partners. We’ve looked at a lot of projects lately and a lot of them aren’t built the way they should be. In a more serious due diligence, many, many fail for various reasons”, stated Ciubotaru.
OMV Petrom will build four photovoltaic parks with a total power of 450 MW, in partnership with the Complexul Energetic Oltenia, with investments to exceed 400 million euros. Approximately 70% of the funding is to be provided through the Modernization Fund.
The company plans to reach a total installed capacity of 1 GW in renewable energy units by 2030.
Ciubotaru added that, at the national level, Romania should focus on training professionals in the renewable energy sector to compensate for the current shortage of qualified labor.
