Interagro Group, controlled by Ioan Niculae, reopens the second chemical unit and becomes the country’s largest gas consumer. The group will open two more chemical units this year. All units run on imported gas.
“The Interagro group of companies is pleased to announce to its partners, affiliates and all those interested that the Donau Chem Turnu Măgurele agricultural fertilizer factory has resumed its activity. After a period of more than 5 years in which production was suspended (shutdown date: March 11, 2015), the company gradually restarted the facilities so that, on June 23, Donau Chem again reaches a daily production of about 1,500 tons of urea and 850 tons of ammonium nitrate, for which it consumes 1.6 million cubic meters of gas. We mention that all this quantity represents imports,” say company officials, according to e-nergia.ro.
”Currently, the unit in Turnu Măgurele has approximately 500 employees, while new personnel was hired to restart and more jobs will be available, our estimates being that we will reach 1,000 employees by the end of Q3 2020. Product deliveries will be made both domestically and for export.”
In addition to Donau Chem, the InterAgro group already has the Chemgas Slobozia fertilizer plant in operation, with a daily capacity of 1,500 tonnes of urea, 1,100 tonnes of ammonia and 900 tonnes of ammonium nitrate. Here, the daily gas consumption is of about 1.4 million cubic meters. All quantities are also imported.
With 3 million cubic meters of gas processed daily, the InterAgro group becomes, from this moment, the largest individual gas consumer in Romania and an important employer that pays, only by social contributions for employees, the equivalent of over 1 million dollars per month.
