President Klaus Iohannis said on Friday that he wants a considerably higher amount for Romania in the next budget of the European Union and favorable implementation conditions for our country, announcing that a European Council meeting will most likely take place in mid-July . “In the current budget year, Romania was entitled to 44 billion euros. I and the entire Romanian team are fighting to get a considerably higher amount for the next budget year and we are also fighting to get better implementation conditions. This means money for economic development, for the health environment, for highways and railways, for water and sewerage, for education, for renewable energy and many other things. I think it is obvious that Romania needs European money. This is our ambition, and we will continue to meet in person in the European Council, probably in mid-July, when I will continue to get involved in order to get as much as possible for Romania,” said the head of state in a statement made at the Cotroceni Palace, according to Agerpres.
The head of state said that following the Council, Member States’ representatives agreed to discuss the multi-annual budget and the recovery fund, in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, “as a package”.
