Bucharest’s top St. Patrick’s Day event, the Parade organized by Ireland Romania Network, will take place on Sunday, March 20th. The Parade will start on Kiseleff Blvd., at the Peasant’s Museum, at starting 3 PM, and will finish two hours later in front of the Romanian Athenaeum.
Ireland Romania Network (IRN)’s Parade will be led by H.E. Mr. Derek FEELY, Ambassador of Ireland to Romania, and Mr. John Long, IRN president. Mr. Ioan Razvan Sava, ad interim Bucharest Mayor, was invited to join as Parade leader.
Two years ago the Parade gathered some 15000 people and, globally, approximatively 24 million TV viewers. “This year the event will be bigger than the last one”, said John Long. “There will be handouts for children, on a first come, first served basis, a lot of music, dancing and fun all down Calea Victoriei. There will be two stops during the Parade where the pipers, drummers and dancers will display their talents, together, for the crowds,” Mr. Long also said.
The event will gather amazing artists, over 100 pipers and drummers, as well as two local Irish dancing teams, Irish Way and STEYsha. 20 pipers come from Ireland, 16 from Varna (Kavadan Bagpipe Band), 58 from Vrancea, 15 from Botosani and 2 from Sibiu. To support the Parade, 40 service dogs born and bred in Ireland will show up in their Sunday best green.
As a sneak preview for the Parade, the pipers will play in Herastrau Park on Saturday, 19th of March, around 12 PM.
Every year on March 17th the Irish and the Irish-at-heart across the globe celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. This holiday particularly remembers St Patrick, Ireland’s patron saint, who brought Christianity to Ireland in the fifth century. What began as a feast day for the patron saint of Ireland has become a global festival celebrating Irish culture with parades, dancing, food and drink and a whole lot of green.
The Ireland-Romania Network (IRN) is a private legal organization, which aims to strengthen and explore the cultural relationship between Ireland and Romania, both existing and new.
