The massive influx of funds for the installation of solar panels on the ground and on roofs generates challenges at the level of planning and installation of these systems, because not all companies appearing on the market have the necessary expertise. Due to irregularities in the installation of photovoltaic systems, it is possible that in a few years some of them will no longer work.
“Now there are over 1,000 companies that install photovoltaic panels in Romania and I have seen a lot of irregularities in the manner of implementing a photovoltaic plant. The biggest challenge comes when planning and installing a photovoltaic system. However, as were are in a new market, there are not many engineers with the necessary knowledge. Because of this, very big mistakes are made and it is possible that due to negligence a system is installed that in two years will no longer be functional”, said Adrian Săcuiu, managing partner at Volt, during the conference “Digitalization and Energy Efficiency – Cluj-Napoca”, organized by Energynomics.
These errors, along with the lack of evaluations and studies done by the company that installs a photovoltaic system, will decrease the lifetime of the installations. Other types of challenges, ignored by many companies, but also by customers, appear at the regulatory level. In many situations, there are discrepancies between the legislative provisions of the Ministry of Energy and the regulations of the National Energy Regulatory Authority, and at least part of these inconsistencies are produced by the lack of technical knowledge at the level of those who regulate the market.
These discrepancies can, in turn, generate blockages that, further, lead to the postponement or even the cancellation of some projects. Also, the beneficiaries of these investments should educate themselves before making the decision of such expenditure and should be primarily interested in the maximum benefits they can obtain in the long term.
“The traditionalist approach based only on the price and/or quality of the equipment is not healthy. Customers should look at the medium-term (10 years) and long-term (25 years) benefits of their systems because after all, a PV installation is an asset that must generate long-term reductions in electricity bills”, Săcuiu added.
