Data centres that will run artificial intelligence (AI)-based applications will need significant amounts of water for cooling and electricity, and nuclear power plants are becoming indispensable in this context, said Marzia Mazzoni, EU Project Manager & Sustainability Manager Walter Tosto WTB.
“AI needs data centres that need more power and cooling water. Without a doubt, nuclear is indispensable if we want to achieve decarbonisation in 2050. It is the only solution. It’s a solution that goes together with renewables, but without nuclear I don’t think we will get where we want to go and I think everyone has realised where we are,” Mazzoni said at the conference “Digitalization and Energy Efficiency – Bucharest” organised by Energynomics together with the Italian Chamber of Commerce for Romania – CCIpR.
Digitisation also provides companies and society at large with a database in general, as a way of collecting data. But, the next step involves interpreting this data, and this requires AI.
