Romanian Ministry of Energy is waiting for the official information from the European Commission regarding the delay letter sent to Romania for restricting the export of electricity, in order to be able to formulate an answer, sources of the Ministry told Agerpres.
“The official paper has not arrived to see exactly what it is about. It is a press release, but we are waiting to see the exact information to be able to express ourselves on concrete things. That is what we want to see and we will respond in two months,” said the quoted source.
The European Commission has decided to initiate a procedure for ascertaining the non-fulfillment of obligations by sending a letter of delay to Romania for restricting the export of electricity, the Community Executive informed, on Wednesday, through a press release.
According to the EC, Romania restricts the export of electricity through a measure incompatible with Articles 35 and 36 of the TFEU, Directive (EU) 2019/944 and Regulation (EU) 2019/943 on the internal electricity market.
“The Commission considers that this measure has an effect equivalent to a quantitative export restriction within the meaning of Article 35 of the TFEU and cannot be justified under Article 36 of the TFEU. For the same reasons, it is considered that the measure also violates the above-mentioned Common Rules Directive for the internal electricity market and the Regulation on the internal electricity market,” emphasizes the Community Executive.
Romania now has two months to respond and remedy the deficiencies identified by the Commission. In the absence of a satisfactory answer, the Commission may decide to issue a reasoned opinion.
