Six years after the feasibility study was approved by the local council, the inhabitants of Techirghiol finally have the option to connect to the natural gas distribution system built by Megaconstruct. With less than 11 million lei, the distribution operator has built 37.8 kilometres of network, to which 90% of the town’s population and businesses can connect.
“Both in terms of value and length, it is the most important such investment put into operation this year at national level,” said Cătălin Ivan, CEO of Megaconstruct. From next week, those interested will be able to submit applications for gas connection. “We aim to have 3,000 people and economic operators connected to gas” in the medium term, in 3-6 months, said Ivan.
Three consumers have already been connected, including a kindergarten and an apartment in a block of flats. According to Cătălin Ivan, the estimated time for a connection is 45 days, depending mainly on the issue of the necessary documents.
The local authorities of Techirghiol have announced that they will launch the necessary procedures to extend the distribution network to cover the entire town, so that all citizens and businesses can switch from the fuels currently used for heating, mainly coke. The area has good development potential in both the residential and tourism sectors, as well as several other large heat consumers on the basis of which the investment in the distribution network can pay for itself in the coming years.
