The authorities must be prepared to have a post-crisis scenario and this is what the representatives of the Ministry of Economy think, in parallel with the management of the economic crisis situation, said the minister Virgil Popescu, on Wednesday evening.

“The problem is that we have to be prepared to have the post-crisis scenario. The crisis will take maybe a month, maybe two, maybe three, and we will handle it. But the problem is what we will do next and we must prepare now, not to we hesitate after the crisis is over on what we have to do. And this is what we are now conceiving, at the Ministry of Economy, in parallel with the management of the economic crisis situation. Of course, if the crisis lasts more than two months, then the budget deficit will accentuate. I estimate it somewhere around 5% for two months, after which I can no longer estimate it, but no matter what the deficit will be, we have to provide funding to the state budget, so that we take care of the population so that people do not suffer,”Popescu said, at Realitatea Plus, according to Agerpres.

He reiterated that the Government is working on several scenarios, with several packages of measures, to “dose the effort”.

“We work on several scenarios, we work on dosing the effort. We do not want to start from the scratch as much as possible, because we do not know how long it will take and therefore we have to dose the effort. That’s why I have said: there has been a first wave of measures, we still correct it if it needs to be corrected, then we work on a second wave of measures, a third wave of measures if necessary, because we have to be prepared for absolutely all the scenarios. I don’t recall another Government to say this, that it is also working in perspective and is thinking of the scenario of restarting the economy at the end of the crisis, but we tell you that this is what we do, this is what we work at, and work with international institutions, with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, precisely to know exactly and find a scenario prepared for Romania after the crisis,” explained the Minister of Economy, Energy and Business Environment.
