The Romanian energy sector was analyzed on Monday by the Minister of Energy, Virgil Popescu, together with Bertrand Piccard, president of the Solar Impulse Foundation, UN Ambassador for the environment and special adviser to the European Commission, according to a press release from the ministry.
“Today I had a working meeting with one of the great explorers of aviation, Bertrand Piccard, president of the Solar Impulse Foundation, UN Ambassador for the Environment and special adviser to the European Commission. He made history by sailing around the world non-stop in a balloon, as well as at the leg of the Solar Impulse plane powered by solar energy. His goal was to demonstrate how clean technologies can achieve the impossible, something he succeeded in setting two world records. We went through the analysis of the Romanian energy sector together and had a excellent exchange of ideas regarding a more innovative approach to clean technologies that protect our environment and that can also be very profitable. Our goal is to prioritize as many solutions as possible for Romania and to advance all implementations necessary for clean and efficient energy,” wrote the minister, on the official social media page.
He emphasized that nuclear energy was one of the main topics discussed, presenting all the opportunities and tools at hand to meet all our targets. “I conveyed that decarbonization without nuclear energy is not possible,” Popescu added.
The meeting was also attended by the State Secretary in the Ministry of Energy, Dan Drăgan, and a delegation from the Swiss Embassy in Romania.
