The Minister of Environment, Waters and Forests, Costel Alexe, will sign, on behalf of Romania, the Declaration on the use of the European Green Deal in the post-COVID-19 period, the relevant ministry announced.
Alexe’s appointment was decided by the Government in Thursday’s meeting, and the Declaration will be signed by Romania following the Memorandum initiated by the Ministry of Environment.
“The Ecological Pact will become for Romania a sustainable engine of post-COVID economic growth. Through this decision we will be able to increase the country’s energy efficiency faster and easier and, implicitly, we will be able to reduce the population’s utility bills. The European ecological pact aims to mobilize at least 1 trillion euros over the next 10 years. These funds can be used not only for the development of non-polluting energy sources but also to make the ecological transition, in energy, without social issues. Not last, Romania will have the chance to develop new industries and jobs. COVID has brought home more than 1 million Romanians. The money from the European Green Deal can help us create the conditions for Romanians who return home to stay in the country with their families,” said Alexe, according to Agerpres.
The European Green Deal is seen as a growth strategy for the EU, able to mobilize financial resources, stimulate economies and create new jobs in the post-crisis period while accelerating the transition to climate neutrality in a cost effective.
