Doubling the budget for the “Scrap Plus” Program was a very good decision, because, at the end of June, we would already be in a position to exhaust the budget equal to last year’s, the Minister of Environment, Waters and Forests, Barna Tanczos, announced on Friday.

“The measure to reduce the number of cars older than 15 years, registered in circulation, was introduced in PNRR (National Recovery and Resilience Plan, e.n.) during the last negotiation period with the European Commission. It was a recommendation of the Commission that came on the line of the transport component to reduce the environmental impact of transport on newly built highways. It is also a novelty for the Government. We are working on these measures to encourage the purchase of new cars. The program “Rabla Plus” is a program that goes at unexpected speeds. We already have over 6,000 units funded and that means we have already reached the number of units funded last year. Doubling the budget in “Scrap Plus” was a very good decision, because at the end of June, we would already be in a position to exhaust the budget – equal to last year’s. At the moment I don’t think there is a need for an increase in the scrapping premium. Additional measures are needed to help purchase electric cars. The subsidy is the largest in Europe and the success of the program, under current conditions, shows that there is enough support to have an effective program,” the official stated, according to Agerpres.

The new edition of the “Rabla Plus” Program has, this year, the largest budget since its launch, respectively 400 million lei, double compared to the previous year.
