The Minister of the Environment, Water and Forests, Costel Alexe, on Wednesday demanded the National Environment Guard to dismiss the Chief Commissioner of Bucharest, following the information published in the public space and a “not exactly efficient” involvement of the institution in what it means to monitor environmental problems.
“As you are well aware, at present, the Commissioners of the Environment Guard in Bucharest and the neighboring counties have an extensive control campaign on all the economic operators in Bucharest and Ilfov on the combustion processes and the emission in the atmosphere of the various pollutants that affect the air quality. As a result of the information published in the public space and of a not very efficient involvement of the Bucharest Environmental Guard, which means monitoring the environmental problems faced by the Capital, I asked the commissary of the National Environment Guard today to dismiss the chief commissioner for Bucharest of the Environment Guard,” said Costel Alexe, according to Agerpres.
Currently, the position of Chief Commissioner of the Bucharest Environment Guard is occupied by Viorel Glăman.
Two days ago, the relevant minister also demanded the resignation of the management of the Environmental Protection Agency (APM) Bucharest, stating, in this context, that “it is not natural that those in the ministry’s management, when we have such overruns (of pollution rates), to find out about it from Facebook.”
On this subject, Costel Alexe mentioned that “at this moment, the Secretary of State (from the Ministry of Environment, Water and Forests) has discussions with the director (of the Bucharest Environment Protection Agency) and I am convinced that she will understand, being a civil servant, to take a step back.” “You know that the law today does not allow a minister to expel a civil servant,” the official said.
The general manager position of APM Bucharest is held by Simona Aldea.
