Ministry of Economy: Energy efficiency to grow by 0.55 mln. toe

The Ministry of Economy aims to increase energy efficiency in the residential sector with about 0.45 million toe by creating a long-term strategy regarding the energy retrofitting of all buildings, the implementation of the program of rehabilitation of apartment buildings, the identification by MDRAP by December 31st for each year the alternative measures for the rehabilitation and notify them to the European Commission as well as by the metering and billing of its heat consumption in the residential sector, shows a statement of the ministry.

The Ministry is also considering increasing the energy efficiency by about 0.1 million toe in the industrial sector through measures to systematically audit and energy management in industry and SMEs, encouraging the activity of companies ESCO (Energy Savings Companies).

“Energy efficiency is a topic of interest to the Ministry of Energy, in the context in which it has a major contribution to strengthening the safety of the energy supply, increasing competitiveness, improving the social environment by creating new jobs, saving energy resources, reducing dependency imports and reduce greenhouse gases,” said Secretary of State in the Ministry Corina Popescu.

Following consultation, the participants have at their disposal four days to send the Ministry of Economy (on the address: consultare.romaniacompetitiva at economie.gov.ro) their punctual comments or ideas for additional measures, taking into account three aspects:

The impact on potential GDP growth, through capital, labor and productivity
proper budgeting
Neutrality in terms of politico-ideological
The thirteenth session of the consultation of the project “Competitive Romania” with the topic Energy efficiency, in a series of 16 consultations, taking place regarding the project “Competitive Romania” was held Wednesday in Bucharest.
