Ministry of Energy has initiated steps to develop a national strategy on hydrogen energy production, in the context in which Romania is facing an energy crisis and with the crisis caused by the war in Ukraine, said Constantin Stefan, Secretary of State in the Ministry of Energy, according to a release of the Romanian National Committee of the World Energy Council.
He was present at the conference “The market model in the field of electricity: functionality and possible amendments,” organized on Wednesday by the Romanian National Committee of the World Energy Council (CNR-CME) and Electrica Furnizare, in partnership with AFEER, ACUE, HENRO and IRE.
“We are currently facing an energy crisis to which is added the crisis caused by the war at east of our country. The Ministry of Energy aims to support domestic and non-household consumers, by adopting GEO no. 27/March 18 2022 regarding the measureas applicable to final customers in the electricity and natural gas market between 1 April 2022 and 31 March 2023, as well as for the amendment and completion of energy regulations. We need to look back at traditional energy producers and, to this end, there is already a medium-term reorganization plan at the Oltenia Energy Complex, by developing eight in situ photovoltaic parks, by diversifying electricity production, and by developing a block with an installed capacity of 750 MW, a 475 MW gas-fired power plant in Işalniţa and a block of approximately 850 MW in Turceni, together with Işalniţa,” said Constantin Ştefan, Secretary of State at Ministry of Energy, according to Agerpres.
He also mentioned that the investments in the capacities for the production of electricity from renewable sources must be continued and that the steps for the elaboration of the National Strategy regarding the production of hydrogen energy have been initiated at the Ministry of Energy.
Three important challenges have been identified by distribution operators: reducing their own technological consumption, measuring electricity and integrating energy producers and consumers (prosumers) into the electricity grid.
“We need clear studies to show us how we manage to go through the energy transition period under stress, what we can take on and what projects should be supported. It is an obligation for all specialists in the energy sector to put on table clear studies through which to define a portfolio of strategic projects that we can support through a legislative modification, which would make it possible to accelerate them,” stressed Corina Popescu, CEO of Electrica SA.
