Roxana Mînzatu, Secretary of State in the Ministry of European Investment and Projects, announced in a Facebook post that the German giant Varta wants to produce batteries for electric cars in Romania and is willing to invest 1 billion euros. “We have set the framework of potential options for financing from European funds for certain components of the investment,” Roxana Mînzatu said.
“The unit will rely on high technology and a well-trained and competitive workforce. The team of the Ministry of Investment and European Projects will provide the task force coordinated by the Ministry of Economy with all possible support to facilitate the investor’s decision to opt for Romania,” Roxana Mînzatu also wrote on Facebook.
Romania’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan include a budget of 150 million euros for several projects aimed at “production and/or assembly and/or recycling of photovoltaic batteries, cells and panels (including ancillary equipment), as well as new electricity storage capacities”. It is already known that the Romanian company Prime Batteries Technology is looking to develop using funding from the NRRP, but other global companies are also interested in these funds. Q3 this year is the deadline in the NRRP for signing the contract for the installation of 2 GW of annual battery production and assembly capacity.
