Moldelectrica has announced that it is no longer issuing grid connection permits, putting all applicants on the waiting list. Sergiu Aparatu, CEO of Moldelectrica SA, said that the grid is blocked even in areas where there was not expected to be high interest in renewable energy.

“The grid is gridlocked even in areas where we don’t expect there to be interest in renewable energy,” he said at the conference Regional Approach: Chisinau 2024, organised by Energynomics.

Aparatu emphasized that there are significant opportunities for investment, including private, in Moldova’s energy sector. However, there is a need to bring the Moldovan energy system in line with ENTSOE requirements, as Moldova cannot constantly depend on energy imports to balance the system.

“We need to focus on complying with ENTSOE requirements because, with only one interconnection line with the EU and Romania, we cannot rely permanently on the flow of imported energy to balance the system. It is not normal to rely on energy that does not belong to us. We need reserves of up to 240 MW, and the US now offers us a reserve of 70 MW,” he added.

The conference Regional Approach Chișinău 2024 was organized by Energynomics with the support of our partners: Boglight Gaz Moldova, Elektra Renewable Support, Parapet GmbH, Siemens Energy, Simtel Team, SolaX Power, Waldevar Energy, Transgaz.
