Companies are becoming increasingly interested in solutions and systems that limit energy consumption and losses in the public transport and freight sector, said Nicușor Stan, Business Development Manager Traction Motion Business, Balkans Area, ABB, at the conference “Regional approach Budapest: Cooperation” organised by Energynomics.

“Everyone is looking to install systems to recover energy losses from train traction systems. Many companies produce this type of LTO battery, but our product has some unique advantages. For example, it is made to withstand 20,000 cycles. In a single hour, this battery can be charged or discharged for three to five cycles,” said Stan.

The ABB Group produces over 10,000 such solutions per year and the demand is extremely high, especially in the sustainable urban transport sector. In Romania, ABB delivered this type of battery for urban transport in Timișoara.

ABB has an LTO battery plant in Switzerland with an annual output of 50 MWh, to be increased to 75 MWh in 2023.
