The digitalization trend makes the energy system smarter and allows consumers to benefit from innovative energy services, said on Wednesday, George-Sergiu Niculescu, the president of the National Energy Regulatory Authority (ANRE).
“This digitalization trend makes the energy system smarter and allows consumers to benefit from innovative energy services. In the context of digialtization and cyber security- I think about the challenges that the cable project will bring that will connect the Caspian area to Europe and which, according to the Agreement signed in Bucharest on December 17, 2022, will cross Azerbaijan, Georgia, Romania and Hungary. Such an initiative will contribute to improving energy security and boost the process of interconnection with other countries,” said George-Sergiu Niculescu, at the Cybernetics Resilience Forum, an event organized by the Romanian Energy Center Association, in partnership with the Euro-Atlantic Center for Resilience under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The President of ANRE spoke about the need to strengthen cyber security simultaneously with the modernization and diversification of energy sources in order to ensure energy security, with safe and sustainable energy, at affordable prices.
At the same time, he emphasized the importance of digitizing and securing energy systems, this process bringing many benefits for businesses and consumers alike.
At the end of the speech, George-Sergiu Niculescu welcomed the inauguration on Tuesday, on the occasion of Europe Day, of the European Cyber Security Competence Center, within the Politehnica University of Bucharest, stating that this center will bring together high-level resources and experts from all over EU in order to develop innovative solutions to cyber threats.
