Niculescu: ANRE granted the first license for the supply of biogas and biomethane

The National Energy Regulatory Authority approved, at this week’s Regulatory Committee meeting, the licensing of biogas and biomethane supply activity for an economic operator in Romania, this being the first license granted in the field, announced the president of ANRE, George-Sergiu Niculescu , according to Agerpres.

“In this week’s meeting of the Regulatory Committee, we approved the licensing of the biogas – biomethane supply activity for an economic operator from Romania. Practically, it is the first license that ANRE grants in this field. We are recording a premiere. Biomethane is a fuel produced from waste, with application to both domestic and non-domestic consumers. The Regulatory Authority will support such efforts in the future as well, so that Romania can reach its assumed targets in terms of the energy transition”, Niculescu sent through a video message posted on his Facebook page.

According to the president of ANRE, the granting of this license represents a historic step for green energy in Romania, being important because biomethane diversifies the energy mix and reduces the carbon footprint and also helps the circular economy, waste being transformed into energy.

George-Sergiu Niculescu emphasized that the objectives are clear, namely 5% biomethane in the networks by 2030, 10% by 2050, this being compatible with the existing infrastructure.
