Statnett, Norway’s electricity grid operator, said it will extend its policy of not charging any fees for using its grid until the end of 2023 to ease the impact of high electricity prices on consumers, Reuters reports.

The state-owned company had announced in February that it would not charge consumption tariffs from April until the end of 2022, after record electricity prices increased its income from the distribution of energy in Norway and neighboring countries, according to Agerpres.

This policy has been extended until the end of 2023, the company announced. Also, from September 1 until the end of 2023, another tariff, through which customers paid for network losses, will be reduced to zero.

The new tariff cuts will reduce electricity costs for consumers by NOK 11 billion ($1.12 billion).
