The Republic of Moldova will receive 30 million euros from the Kingdom of Norway. The money will be used to support the country’s energy transition goals, strengthen the education sector and promote good governance.
The support was announced by Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre at the Energy Roundtable, an event hosted by the Norwegian Cooperation Agency (NORAD), in Oslo. The Minister of Energy, Victor Parlicov, also participated in this event, according to Realitatea.md.
According to the Norwegian Prime Minister, the Republic of Moldova became the seventh largest beneficiary of the aid granted by Norway, in the context in which our country was significantly affected by the war in Ukraine. However, the progress of the Chisinau authorities in the process of implementing the European reform agenda, including in the energy sector, was appreciated.
“Russia’s war of aggression has had serious repercussions on the security landscape across Europe. However, the Republic of Moldova is an inspiring example of how democratization and progress can take place even in extremely challenging circumstances. The EUR 30 million financial support we are allocating will be used to expand cooperation in several sectors, including education and good governance efforts in the country,” said Prime Minister Støre.
Also, during the event, the Minister of Energy of the Republic of Moldova emphasized Moldova’s commitment to the process of strengthening energy sustainability and referred to our country’s ambitious plans in terms of energy efficiency, energy from renewable sources, digitization and cyber security of the energy sector , as well as the promotion of sustainable international partnerships.
“The Republic of Moldova is dedicated to accelerating its transition to a greener and more resilient energy future, and the support offered by prestigious partners such as Norway is crucial in achieving this vision,” he said during the event.
The round table, organized under the auspices of NORAD, brought together senior officials from Norway as well as stakeholders from the Norwegian energy ecosystem. At the same time, the delegation of the Republic of Moldova, led by President Maia Sandu, also includes Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi and Minister Anatolie Nosatîi. According to the Ministry of Energy, the Kingdom of Norway included the Republic of Moldova in the “Nansen” support program for Ukraine, to help the country overcome the unfortunate consequences of the brutal war of the Russian Federation against the neighboring country.
