Unit 1 of Cernavoda NPP will be stopped in a controlled manner, on the night of Friday to Saturday (January 15-16, 2021), for the realization of repair works, as a result of a defect in its classic/ secondary technological circuit, announced Tuesday night Nuclearelectrica, in a statement.

According to the quoted source, the power reduction maneuvers will start on January 16, at 0:00.

“The controlled shutdown of Unit 1 of Cernavoda NPP is performed according to the procedures applicable in such situations and is necessary to allow the staff of Cernavoda NPP to perform repair works safely, given that the working fluid (demineralized water) is at temperature and high pressure,” the statement said.

Nuclearelectrica assures that the failure occurred at the classic technological circuit of Unit 1 and the related remediation works do not have an adverse impact on the nuclear safety, the environment, the personnel or the population.
