NuScale aims to provide Romania with affordable, scalable solutions, to meet its clean energy needs, said Carolina Hidea, economic counselor, Embassy of the United States of America in Romania, during the IX-th edition of Energynomics Awards.
”Thank you for inviting us here to talk about the Romanian energy sector, one of the most important for us, including for our US-Romania strategic partnership – it’s also a major focus for the US Embassy here in Bucharest. Diversification and further development of the Romanian energy industry have the potential to transform the country into a land of greater opportunity, with a more secure country in the region, more competitive within Europe, and, of course, taking a greater geopolitical role,” said Carolina Hidea.

There are a series of very important landmark events that earmark the bilateral relationships. “We had a delegation led by a senior advisor with the US Department of State Justin Friedman”, she said. The delegation, composed of energy, science and commerce experts included the assistance bureaus, was aimed at moving forward the cooperation between US and Romania. The delegation included experts and officials from the Presidential Administration and well as the ministries of Foreign Affairs, Energy and Economics and proved very fruitful from both perspectives.
“There was also a follow-up of the most important event that we have seen in the last two years, that took place in Glasgow, in November, of course, I am talking about COP 26, where president Iohannis joined special presidential envoy John Kerry to announce Romania’s intent to deploy small modular reactors. The announcement was followed by a meeting between US secretary of Energy, Jennifer Granholm and Romanian Minister of Energy Virgil Popescu, where they witnessed the signing of an agreement between Nuclearelectrica and NuScale. The US technology is years ahead of its competitors and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission approved its design in September 2020. NuScale aims to provide Romania with affordable, scalable solutions, to meet its clean energy needs,” she said.
