OMV Petrom, the largest integrated energy producer in South-Eastern Europe, in partnership with Complexul Energetic Oltenia (CE Oltenia), announces the signing of design and construction contracts for four photovoltaic parks.
The four projects have a total installed capacity of approximately 550 MW, an increase from the initially estimated capacity of 450 MW, due to the solutions proposed by the contractors, which aim to maximize electricity production. The parks will be built on land belonging to CE Oltenia, in Gorj and Dolj counties. The parks will be built on land belonging to CE Oltenia, in Gorj and Dolj counties. The projects are part of CEO’s restructuring and decarbonisation plan and benefit from non-reimbursable EU funding through the Modernisation Fund.
The electricity produced will be delivered to the National Energy System and is estimated to cover the equivalent annual electricity consumption of approximately 410,000 homes in Romania.
“The signing of these contracts represents a concrete step towards consolidating our presence in the renewable energy sector. We have been active in electricity production since 2012, through the Brazi natural gas power plant, which can cover approximately 10% of national electricity production. Through the 2030 Strategy, we aim to be a key player in Romania’s energy transition, with an ambitious target of developing 2.5 GW of capacity, including through partnerships, from wind and photovoltaic sources. We have secured a solid portfolio of projects, currently in various stages of execution, which will contribute to building the energy system of the future,” said Frank Neel, member of the OMV Petrom Management Board, responsible for the Gas and Energy activity.
Two contractors have been selected to implement the projects.
A consortium of Ameresco from the US and Sunel from Greece will carry out the design and construction for three of the four photovoltaic parks – Rovinari, Tismana 1 and Tismana 2 – which total a capacity of ~460 MW.
The fourth photovoltaic park, with a capacity of ~90 MW, will be built by the Turkish company Girisim Elektrik, on the site of the former CE Ișalnița thermal power plant, on the slag dump.
The total investment value for the four photovoltaic parks exceeds 400 million euros, of which approximately 70% is provided by the Modernization Fund. OMV Petrom and CE Oltenia are equal partners in the projects, each holding a 50% stake.
