OMV Petrom continues the modernization works at the Petrobrazi refinery. The company has invested about 46 million euros since 2017 to upgrade the coking plant. At this facility, a closed-loop rapid drainage system has been implemented that totally eliminates any emissions of volatile organic compounds, thereby contributing to reducing the environmental impact.
“Petrobrazi is one of the most important refineries in Romania, which can provide annual fuel consumption for approximately 3 million cars. We invested about 1.6 billion euros between 2005 and 2018 to upgrade Petrobrazi to implement the best internationally available technologies, which led to environmentally friendly operating conditions,” said Radu Căprău, a member of OMV Petrom’s Directorate for Downstream Oil activities.
The coking plant is an important point in the refining process. Here, heavy oil compounds from other installations are redirected and the latest oil transformation processes are carried out. The coke obtained here is mainly used in the metallurgical industry.
OMV Petrom has implemented in the Petrobrazi refinery the best technologies available for the recovery of hydrocarbon vapors from the coking plant. Thus, the old drainage system, put into operation 20 years ago, has been replaced by a modern system that totally eliminates emissions of volatile organic compounds.
The project involved complex civil works, the installation of about 400 tons of pipelines and the implementation of automated control and monitoring systems. The project involved over 450,000 hours worked without incidents.
