OMV Petrom publishes the Sustainability Report – 1GW green projects planned

OMV Petrom, the largest integrated energy producer in Southeast Europe, has published its Sustainability Report for 2023. It provides an overview of the company’s economic, environmental and social achievements and projects, as well as commitments and progress towards sustainable development. Thus, important progress has been made in the transition to a low-carbon business – the intensity of carbon emissions decreased by 11%, and methane emissions decreased by 72% compared to 2019. More than 40 million euros for projects social, with about 850,000 beneficiaries.

“Sustainability is fully integrated in our Strategy 2030. In 2023 we made significant progress with the implementation of the strategy, in the transition to a low-carbon business model, with important achievements in the field of renewable energy and electric mobility. We have also entered the development phase of the Neptun Deep project, which is essential to ensure a smooth transition to a low-carbon economy. We have continued to reduce our emissions and maintain our commitment to achieve a 30% reduction in the carbon intensity of our operations by 2030 compared to the 2019 level,” says Christina Verchere, CEO, OMV Petrom.

The sustainability framework focuses on transitioning to low-carbon businesses, running responsible operations, supporting people and communities, and leveraging innovation and digitization. OMV Petrom supports the Paris Agreement on climate change and contributes to the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Key aspects of the OMV Petrom 2023 Sustainability Report include a portfolio of over 1 GW of renewable energy projects in Romania, including through partnerships and 270 recharging stations installed in our regional network. Carbon intensity of operations reduced by 11% compared to 2019, and Scope 1-3 emissions were reduced by approximately 9% compared to 2019, with flaring and venting reduced by 61%. At the same time, the recovery rate of all waste increased to 82%.

The company also announced a rate of more than 6,700 employees included in medical screening campaigns and an average of 33 hours of professional training per employee. At the same time, the share of women in management positions reached 30%.

OMV Petrom encourages local procurement, with 90% of spending being with local suppliers. The company makes continuous efforts to have a positive impact on local communities and to support national projects, with more than 40 million euros being spent on social projects with approximately 850,000 beneficiaries.

As a result of efforts for sustainable transformation, OMV Petrom’s sustainability management continued to be rated as strong. The company has been included in the FTSE4Good index series based on proven sound environmental, societal and governance practices. OMV Petrom was once again featured in Sustainalytics’ 2023 ESG Top Rated Companies list and received Silver Supplier status from EcoVadis.
