The Efficient Romania program, launched by OMV Petrom together with EPG in 2019 continues with additional funding of 4 million euros for renovation projects to increase the energy performance of public buildings, as well as education programs and public information campaigns in the field of energy efficiency in buildings.

Through this new phase of the Efficient Romania program, two educational units in Ovidiu (Constanța county) and Drobeta-Turnu Severin (Mehedinți county) will be rehabilitated and modernized to bring them to a building standard with an energy consumption of zero (nZEB). The renovation includes the thermal insulation of the external walls, the terrace and the floor with energy-efficient materials, the complete change of the existing carpentry with an energy-efficient one, the provision of modern lighting systems and equipment for the production of energy from renewable sources.

The first phases of the project mainly consisted of educational activities, research-documentation, development of publications and public dissemination of information about energy efficiency in buildings. These included the renovation to nZEB standards of two public schools in Ploiesti and Băicoi. In April of this year, the renovation works were completed at the Energetic Technological High School “Elie Radu” in Ploiești, and in September 2022, the modernization works were started at the “Liliești” Secondary School in Băicoi.

Efficient Romania is a private project of national scope, carried out by the Energy Policy Group (EPG) in partnership and with the financing of OMV Petrom. The project started in the summer of 2019 and consists of running a national program to promote energy efficiency. Efficient Romania aims to support the achievement of Romania’s targets for 2030 regarding the reduction of carbon emissions and the increase of energy efficiency, both through information and education campaigns, as well as through the realization of concrete major renovation projects in public schools in different regions of the country. “The purpose of this program is to show how we can all, through energy efficiency, eliminate waste and contribute to a cleaner environment. Efficient Romania has proven that it can contribute to change and we will continue to support this program”, said Christina Verchere, CEO of OMV Petrom.

The fourth edition of the Efficient Romania Forum, with the central theme “The Role of Buildings to REPowerEU”, brings together today several experts to discuss the opportunities and challenges of energy efficiency in buildings in Romania and the region, while exploring technologies that can contribute to the decarbonization of the buildings sector.
