Hydrogen as an energy carrier is an essential element for sustainable development, say the authors, who note at the outset that there are, however, many challenges to implementing the components of a hydrogen energy system. The volume “Hydrogen and natural gas in Romania” aims to facilitate the introduction of hydrogen in the energy sector, a major objective at the European level. The paper discusses how Romania’s energy system, and therefore the natural gas sector, can be transformed and how the use of hydrogen could open a new chapter in the energy transition, as its unique properties allow it to be used for carbon-free energy storage and distribution through all forms of use.
The volume by Dumitru Chisăliță and Ioan Iordache “looks exactly to what we already know and what knowledge is lacking for transporting and storing hydrogen using natural gas pipelines. In addition, the book looks to the opportunities that this could bring for Europe with a special focus on Romania,” writes Bart Biebuyck, Executive director of Clean Hydrogen Partnership, in the introduction. The book ends with four scenarios for the development of hydrogen pipeline infrastructure in Romania, a few pages full of suggestions for the decision-makers in the private and especially in the public domain.
