For 25 years, September 8 has a deep meaning for Romanian oilmen and their families – is “Oilman Day”, celebrated, since 1990, at the initiative of Petrom Federation of Independent and Free Unions. Under the patronage of St. Mary, chosen as protector of oil workers, Oilman Day is dedicated to personnel in the oil industry, to those engaged in drilling, extraction, and processing and petroleum research.
“The Oilman Day is the best opportunity to appreciate the work of people in the oil industry. A history of over 150 years, an extremely difficult present, ambitious in projects with leading technologies, and risks to match. A history with world premieres, lots of achievements, inventions and discoveries made by talented engineers and inventors and thousands of dedicated people who work every day with such energy. For this we thank them all and celebrate together the Oilman Day”, emphasizes Daniel Apostol, Secretary-General of ROPEPCA.

The Oilman Day is also a good occasion to draw the attention of the Romanian State on market conditions and on the regulatory framework in which the daily activity of the Romanian oilmen is made. Is required the upgrading of Petroleum Law, modern institutions aligned both to the requirements of EU directives and to those of business community, and to a transparent fiscal framework, stable and predictable, to reflect the realities of the day. ROPEPCA reminds to all stakeholders the need of proper documentation and public information, so the new law and new tax package to bring to society a gain by supporting industry growth through direct participation in development of the entire Romanian economy.
“The constructive dialogue held with representatives of interested parties clearly shows the urgent need to reform the framework and the regulatory body in natural resources, to modernize the structures and to adopt the best practices of the Millennium. NAMR is the result of a project implemented 20 years ago by the Romanian state with the World Bank, and the current market realities and changes appeared with the integration into the European Union requires both modernization and reform for NAMR, and for the regulatory framework of the oil and gas industry. The result must benefit the state, the society and the business community, to support the industry that brings to the Treasury billions of RON a year and in which Romania sums up most jobs created between EU countries”, said Artur Stratan, Chairman of ROPEPCA Association.
In developing the dialogue with institutional partners, ROPEPCA will continue to submit to the Government and other civil representatives the facts, statistics and forecasts of the industry, so that oil and gas industry to receive the treatment it needs to support industry growth and the development of the entire Romanian economy.
