Romania’s Energy Ministry has requested two controls at the local energy supplier Electrica Furnizare, to be completed by the end of this week, on the purchase of green certificates carried out by the company from companies belonging to the Portuguese group EDP Renewables. Cristian Busu, state secretary in the Energy Ministry and president of the administrators boards, said to Agerpres, they have received several notices on the matter.
Officials from Electrica Furnizare explained the transactions helped to “diminish the effort of multiple transactions and that of managing a too high green certificates aquisition contracts”.
“There were many notices, from all sides. The “whistle blower” system included, I have also received notices on my e-mail address from the minister”, Cristian Buşu explained.
On Friday, Hotnews informed that Romanian electricity supplier Electrica Furnizare bought 1.6 million green certificates for almost EUR 60 million from companies belonging to the Portuguese group EDP Renewables between April and May this year.
The transactions were striking because of the very high volumes and the long delivery period, namely until 2019, given that the market is facing a huge surplus of green certificates. Moreover, Romania’s Regulatory Authority for Energy – ANRE has announced the cut in the mandatory quota of green certificates from 12.15% to 8.3% for next year. This means that electricity suppliers need a lower number of green certificates for the same quantity of electricity delivered.
Electrica Furnizare said that it was more advantageous to buy from the same group on the long run to avoid the effort of concluding too many contracts.
”In fact, Electrica admited that it had made cheap energy plus green certificates packages”, market sources commented for energynomics.ro.
