OPCOM: Energy price increased by 75% in December year-on-year

The electricity price on the OPCOM stock exchange spot market (Day-Ahead Market – PZU) had an average of 701.88 lei per MWh in December 2024, a value 75% higher than the price recorded in the same month of the previous year, namely 402.35 lei per MWh, according to the monthly report posted on the stock exchange operator’s website, consulted by Energynomics.

The total value of transactions was of 1.25 billion lei, up from 622 million lei in December 2023.

On the other hand, the volume of transactions increased by 5.27%, to 1,649 GWh.

The market share of PZU was of 34% in December, relatively stagnant compared to 2023 (+0.17%).

About 277 participants were registered on the OPCOM spot market, of which 186 were active.

Compared to November 2024, the December price decreased by 16%.

At the same time, on the intra-day market (share of only 3.62%), the December 2024 price advanced by 77.5%, to 757 lei per MWh, compared to December 2023.

Compared to November 2024, the price decreased by 17.88%.

On the market for bilateral contracts PCCB-LE-FLEX (market share 20.36%), the average price was 491 lei per MWh for 225 contracts with delivery in December 2024, and the value of transactions was 482 million lei. There were 13 long-term contracts signed in December, at an average price of 571.74 lei per MWh and with a total value of 656 million lei, the OPCOM report also shows.
