OPCOM: The average price of May, lower by 6% on DAM against May 2023 – the market stabilizes

The average May price on the day-ahead market segment (PZU, DAM) of OPCOM decreased in May by only 5.62% in nominal terms (6.23% expressed in euros) compared to May of the previous year, but it was 36% higher than in April 2024, which reflects a certain stabilization trend of the market, after the steep declines recorded at the beginning of the year – reveals the data consulted by Energynomics.

Thus, the weighted average price of energy in May 2024 was of 439.61 lei/MWh on the PZU segment, or 88.35 euros, for a total traded value of 645.76 million lei and with a market share of the PZU segment growing to 38.44% (+26% compared to May 2023, -11% compared to April 2024).

The nominal price of May 2024 was higher by 36.26% compared to April 2024, on the back of transactions increasing by more than 16.7%, OPCOM’s monthly report said.

At the same time, on the intra-day market, with a share of 5%, higher by 73% compared to May of the previous year, a weighted average price of 3.77% lower was recorded compared to May 2023 (-4.36% in real terms) and 49.76% higher than April 2024 (+49.71% expressed in euros). The value of the transactions was of 77 million lei, 63% higher compared to May 2023 and by 36.9% higher as compared to April 2024.

On the centralized market for bilateral contracts (PCCB-LE-FLEX), 154 contracts were traded, worth 1.48 billion lei, at a weighted average price of 96.35 euros in May 2024. Contracts with delivery in May were 111, with a total value of around 42 million euros and a market share of 12.73%, the weighted average price being of 87 euros/MWh.
